If you’ve ever called our customer service line, you’ve experienced the friendly voice of Martha Crane, who has worked as secretary to Mark Hayes since 1984. During our time together she has adapted to new job responsibilities with ease, especially through many phases of our continuously changing advanced technology. She processes and ships all online and phone orders, both domestically and internationally, compiles new product information into our annual online catalog and archives all of our music. Martha is Mark’s “go-to-person” when he is on the road and needs some last minute product.
Martha enjoys singing in a local community chorus since she is an avid music lover and singer. Her Christian faith is very important to her and she lives that out through involvement at her local church. She is also the proud, sometimes indulgent grandmother of Adelina, her first granddaughter.
Mike Irwin has been the business manager for Mark Hayes Productions since 2004. He handles payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable and books all Mark’s travel arrangements. He also advises Mark on major business decisions.
In addition to his responsibilities at Mark Hayes Productions, Mike is the Assistant Minister at Center for Spiritual Living in Kansas City, Missouri, and is a transformational life coach with the Ford Institute. Two of the loves of his life are granddaughter, Bella and grandson, Mason, whom he babysits weekly.
After graduating Baylor University in 1975, Mark moved to Kansas City in 1977 to work as the music editor for Tempo Music Publications. The next three years were filled with invaluable experiences learning the music publishing industry. When Tempo closed their doors Mark was presented with a tough decision. He chose to be a free-lance arranger for a year until he could get another job in the music industry. Thus Mark Hayes Productions was born in 1980 and Mark never sought another job working for a publisher.
By this time, he had a handful of choral anthems in print and was able to make a living doing contract work for the many publishers he networked with during his time at Tempo Music Publications. Churches and schools began to contact Mark to write commissioned anthems and Shawnee Press published his first solo piano book, a personal milestone for him. Momentum was building and a career as a self-employed composer, arranger, concert pianist, conductor and clinician was born.
Today Mark is internationally known and his music is performed all across the globe. He has traveled throughout Europe, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, and South Africa to concertize, conduct and lead workshops. He is a frequent guest conductor at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. When he is not on the road, he is home composing or arranging the next project on his growing “to do” list.
On a personal note, Mark enjoys reading mystery and crime novels, live theater, movies, entertaining, cooking and traveling for pleasure. He volunteers at his local church as a musician and teacher and leads an affirmative prayer team. For several years he has mentored a student at the school across the street from his home. He keeps his body healthy by hitting the gym at 5:30 AM several days a week and walking his two 75 lb. Labs, Buck and Ollie. Truth be told, usually Buck and Ollie are enthusiastically “walking Mark.”
