The message sung by the angels on that first Christmas night is “plugged in” in this piece from the musical The Kingdom Song. With a toe-tapping rock beat and lots of syncopation, Hayes’ musical setting of the Biblical account is full of excitement and energy. The verses are almost exclusively unison, and the refrain has such straightforward partwriting that this piece is easily accessible to any 4-part chorus – youth choirs will love it! With its electricity and big finish, it would be a great piece to open – or close! – this year’s Christmas program.
