Taken from a William Blake sonnet, this text expounds on the mysteries of life, how some are born to a life of joy, some to sorrow, and that these experiences are mere threads in the tapestry of human existence. The tune is somewhat modal, with a decidedly minor color, set in 6/8 time. The piano part is especially beautiful, moving from delicate pianissimos to forceful fortes, and finally to a quiet resolution. Suitable for school and community use, the partwriting is easy-to-medium difficulty and uses substantial unison, 2-part and simple canonic writing. This would be a perfect contest or concert piece.
