Date released: 1998
This medley combines the well-known spirituals, “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen,” “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child,” and “Steal Away.” The first song is set in a slow, steady jazz style featuring substantial unison writing and a great piano part.. “Motherless Child” showcases a female soloist with choir backup in a traditional rubato style. The medley concludes with the lyrical, intimate “Steal Away” and an exquisite ending that seems to simply drift away into heaven. Suitable for high school, college, community, and church choirs. Moderate to difficult partwriting.
